DIY Thrust Stand

A thrust stand made for analysing propulsion systems of drones and UAVs. It uses an adjustable load cell to measure the weight/thrust of the motor and offers live data logging.

The frame is made out of wood and some metal brackets.

The accuracy of the measured data is very good and comparable to the commercially available thrust stands which are way too much expensive!

This makes it a great cost-effective project considering the costs of similar thrust stands that are commercially available.

>> Features Include:

  • It can measure up to 5Kg of thrust using a load cell and HX711 module.

  • The loadcell can be upgraded to support higher thrust measurements.

  • Motor Propeller used: Motors and Propellers for Bajrang Drone v4.0. These are changeable as per the requirements.

  • ESC used: DH ESC. It can be changed as per requirements.

  • Supports live voltage and current readings through analog inputs.

  • Supports live motor temperature reading based on a temperature-sensitive resistor integrated inside the motors.

  • The control board can output a 1000us-2000us pulse (customisable) to drive the ESCs to change the amount of thrust produced.

  • The control board has a total of 8 analog inputs and 2 digital outputs.

  • It is powered by an external power supply to support a wide range of propulsion systems

  • It connects to the PC via a USB cable.
  • All the data measurements are logged continuously.
